Early A.M., the Keeper takes a smoke break outside the lantern. He eyes Northeast and is greeted with great billows of smoke. Pencil like smokestacks appear, breaking the horizon. A coal burner of the Lapland Line followed by two squat funnels, the motor ship, Britannic.

Greetings fellow lighthouse enthusiasts, Trustees and volunteers: Boat slips are starting to fill up. The daffodils and tulips are pushing through. The Earth’s two sure signs of spring. Spring is a busy time of year not only for the Keepers of old but, also for SGLCC Trustees and volunteers.

Springtime saw an increase in shipping, holiday ocean excursions out of the big cities and the local fishing fleets put to sea. Shaking off the winter slumber, “the light” had to be ready. Painting and dusting was a constant chore not only a hundred years ago but, also today. We are not guiding marine traffic anymore but, we still have to be in a condition the US Lighthouse Service would approve. Maintenance and improvements this year will include painting, gutter repair and replacing rotten wood on the front
porch.

Tours are starting April 27th and before you know it, the August 2nd Lawn Party will be
upon us.

If you are interested in volunteering at the lighthouse, please let us know. We are in need of tour volunteers and please note, no experience is necessary. Volunteering is a great way to meet new people and we would love to have you join us.

Now is the time to renew your regular annual SGLCC Membership. Please mail your
$50.00 dues to
SGLCC
P.O. Box 83
Sea Girt, NJ 08750.
Annual dues are payable on May 1st. We run our membership calendar from May 1st through April 30th. Please notify us of any address change. Remember, you need not be a Sea Girt resident to become a SGLCC Member – you just need to love the lighthouse.

As always, all donations are greatly appreciated. “Our Light” is showing years of weariness and your donations will help keep the lighthouse one of the gems of Sea Girt.

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, we wish to thank you for your continued support to keep “Our Light” shining.
Sincerely,
Jude Meehan, President SGLCC
