Contribute To Historic Preservation

Become a Friend of Sea Girt Lighthouse and donate to the preservation and operation of this 115-year-old Jersey shore landmark. Donations enable the all-volunteer, non-profit Sea Girt Lighthouse Citizens Committee, Inc. (SGLCC) to properly maintain this historic treasure and preserve its rich past.

Contributions are and always have been the lifeblood of the organization. The generosity of our friends over many years made possible the original 1981-82 restoration of Sea Girt Lighthouse and more recent restorations, including that of the metal lantern room atop the tower, as well as the acquisition of lighthouse artifacts such as a Fresnel lens. Given the building’s age and the pounding it takes in storms, repair work is never ending. And it is contributions that help fund such essential repairs as the replacement of the roof, windows and front steps and the resealing and repointing of the exterior brickwork.

With such strong support, Sea Girt Lighthouse is today in good condition, open to the public and in use some 200 days a year, welcoming visitors from down the block and around the world. Community groups utilize the lighthouse to conduct their regular meetings. These visitors see the history of the lighthouse and bygone eras before them in our displays of rare artifacts. The collection continues to grow through gifts of artifacts and the donations of Friends of the Lighthouse.

While the lighthouse clearly benefits from its many supporters, Friends of the Lighthouse receive:

o Tax Deduction – SGLCC is a tax-exempt foundation under Section 501(c)(3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code, registered with the State of New Jersey. As a result, all donations are tax deductible subject to standard IRS regulations.

o Matching Gift – Each donation has the potential to double through matching gifts for which SGLCC qualifies under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

o Lighthouse Friend – The president of the SGLCC acknowledges each and every donation with a personal letter of thanks and appreciation. The donor also receives a Friend of the Lighthouse card illustrated with an artist’s image of Sea Girt Lighthouse.

o Private Tour – As a Friend of the Lighthouse, a donor is invited to take a private tour of the lighthouse, guided by one of the committee’s knowledgeable docents.

o Personal Satisfaction – Donors make a positive difference by enabling the work of the SGLCC to preserve and protect this landmark for all to appreciate and enjoy.
